Memory and the Resistance
This route follows the memory of the Resistance and the Liberation across southern Paris. It opens at Bir-Hakeim, named for a 1942 battle fought by the Free French Forces. It passes through Montparnasse, where General Leclerc set up his headquarters in August 1944, and ends at Denfert-Rochereau, near Colonel Rol-Tanguy's underground command post, now the Museum of the Liberation of Paris. Nine stations to understand how a city rose up, and how its streets still bear the traces: plaques, memorials, station names.
