Did you know?
Épinay means a place planted with thorn bushes (Spinogilum in 637); 'sur-Orge' names the river. The lordship belonged to the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which records it from the 8th century.
Anecdote
The château, enlarged in the 18th century by Henri Cochin, was bought in 1866 by the Duchess of Carafa; ceded to the town in 1923, it has housed the town hall since 1927.
