Achères-Ville: history and sights
Served by: RER A, Transilien L.
Did you know?
The name Achères, recorded in 990 as Villam Apiarias, probably comes from beehives or Old French 'aschier' (apiary). The lordships of Achères and Garennes were united in 1525; tradition places the birth of Saint Louis here.
Anecdote
Around 1899, on the straight road of the Achères farmland park, Camille Jenatzy exceeded 105 km/h at the wheel of the electric car 'La Jamais Contente', then a land-speed record.
