Belloy probably comes from Latin bidolidum, the 'birch grove', mentioned as early as 775; Belloy-en-Parisis became Belloy-en-France in 1949. Saint-Martin-du-Tertre appears in 1170 as Sanctus Martinus de Colle.
Anecdote
Belloy's 13th-century Saint-Georges church has been listed since 1846; its Renaissance portal is possibly by Jean Bullant and its stone fonts date from 1524.
