Bonnières: history and sights
Served by: Transilien J.
Did you know?
Bonnières may derive from Old French 'bonnier', an agrarian measure of about one hectare (a hypothesis). Under the Ancien Régime it was a stagecoach relay on the Caen-Paris road; Le Ménil-Renard was absorbed around 1794.
Anecdote
In the 19th century, Jules Micheaux's petroleum refinery at Bonnières reportedly inspired a passage in Zola's 'L'Œuvre'.
