Did you know?

Couilly, cited as Colliacum in 853, is probably of Gallo-Roman origin; Pont-aux-Dames comes from the 'Pont-Nostre-Dame' of an old Hôtel-Dieu. Saint-Germain-sur-Morin recalls the Benedictines of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Anecdote

The Cistercian abbey of Pont-aux-Dames, founded in 1226, hosted Madame du Barry in exile in 1774; demolished after 1796, it was replaced in 1905 by a retirement home for artists.
