Domont probably comes from the Germanic name Dodo and Latin mons, 'hill' (Dauzat and Rostaing); the origin remains debated. Around 1105 the lord Rudolph the Fair gave the local abbey to the Paris priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs.

Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church, built around 1150 by the priory's Benedictines, blends Romanesque and Gothic styles; it has been a listed monument since 1913.
