Did you know?
Esbly is first mentioned c. 1140 (Capela Esbeliaci), then a hamlet of the parish of Saint-Germain-lès-Couilly; the origin of its name is uncertain. Celtic tombs and coins attest settlement from the 6th–5th century BC.
Anecdote
The Esbly bridge over the Marne is a listed historic monument: it combines a rare suspended timber bridge (1845–1850) with a prestressed-concrete bridge designed in 1948 by Eugène Freyssinet.
