Igny: history and sights
Served by: Transilien V.
Did you know?
Igny probably comes from the Gallo-Roman name Ignius: 'Ignius's estate' (Iniacum, then Igniacum in 1212). A watchtower was built there in the 13th century and is now the bell tower of Saint-Pierre church.
Anecdote
In 1610 the lord of Igny, François de Vigny, was mortally wounded in a clash with peasants on the Pont Monseigneur, a 16th-century bridge that still stands.
