La Barre-Ormesson: history and sights
Served by: Transilien H.
Did you know?
Deuil probably comes from Celtic divo-ialo, 'sacred clearing' (Diogilum, 862); 'la Barre' suggests a barrier or fortified site. Hervé de Montmorency was its first lord in the 11th century.
Anecdote
Of the Château de La Chevrette, destroyed in 1786, only the gate and the lodge (1757-1759) remain; the lodge is now Deuil-la-Barre's municipal museum.
