First mentioned in 1222 in a document of the abbey of Saint-Denis, La Garenne was a fief depending on Colombes before becoming a commune on 2 May 1910.

In 1707 the Ladies of Saint-Cyr ceded La Garenne to the Marquis de Tanlay in exchange for a farm at Cormeilles.
