The name, recorded as Larziacum and Lardiacum in the 12th century, has an unclear origin. From the 15th to the 17th century the canalised Juine had a river port here, from which boats set off for Paris.
Anecdote
The 15th-century château, bought in 1756 by Jules-Antoine Rousseau, has served as the town hall since 1973; the Pont de l'Hêtre and the Moulin des Scelles have been protected since 1926.
