Did you know?
An 'essart' is cleared land (Latin exsartum): the site was won from the forest for the Parisian abbey of Saint-Magloire. Recorded as Essars Regis in the 13th century, it owes 'le Roi' to its royal ownership.
Anecdote
From 1879, the nearby Maréchaux quarries supplied the paving stones for the streets of Paris.
