Maisons may come from Latin mansio, a staging post on a Roman road (Mansiones, 988). Alfort comes from Harefort, the estate of Pierre d'Aigueblanche, Bishop of Hereford. The two names were joined in the late 17th century.
Anecdote
In 1765 the Alfort estate was bought to found Claude Bourgelat's veterinary school, which now houses the Fragonard Museum and its famous flayed anatomical specimens.
