Did you know?
Massy comes from a Gallo-Roman estate, probably 'Macciacum', built from the Latin name Maccius and the Gaulish suffix -acum. In 555, King Childebert I is said to have given the lordship to the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Anecdote
In 1802, Nicolas Appert set up in Massy what is described as the world's first canning factory; it was ruined in 1814 by the Prussian army.
