Nogent (Novigentus, 829) means "new village" in Gaulish; l'Artaud recalls a 12th-century lord, treasurer to the Count of Champagne. Charly, Carliacus in 852, became Charly-sur-Marne in 2006.
Anecdote
In 858, Charles the Bald granted rights to the abbey of Notre-Dame de Soissons, which held large seigneurial lands at Charly until the Revolution.
