Opened in 1840 as the Gare de l'Ouest, Montparnasse station was where General von Choltitz surrendered to Leclerc on 25 August 1944.
Anecdote
On 22 October 1895 the Granville express overran the buffer stop and crashed onto the Place de Rennes, in one of the most famous railway photographs in the world.
