Did you know?
Créteil, Cristoilum in Gaulish, became Créteil in 1406; the explanation by Christ is rejected by historians. The lake (about 40 ha), a former quarry, was dug in the mid-1970s as a safeguard against a hundred-year Marne flood.
Anecdote
Créteil's 14th-century dovecote is the largest in Île-de-France; classified in 1972, it was moved 45 m in 1971. The church of Saint-Christophe has been classified since 1928.
