Savigny-sur-Orge: history and sights
Served by: RER C.
Did you know?
Its name probably comes from Sabinus, a Gallo-Roman landowner (Savini around 1100); 'sur-Orge' was added in 1801 to distinguish it from namesakes. In 1353 the village belonged to the Hospitaller priory of Saint-Jean at Corbeil.
Anecdote
In 1802 the future Marshal Davout bought the château de Savigny and had major works carried out; the town now devotes a museum to him.
