Did you know?

Villaines comes from the Latin villana, from villa ('the farm'). Mentioned in 838, it became Villaines-sous-Bois in 1922. In 1294 Mathieu IV de Montmorency ceded it to the Abbey of Saint-Denis; local women made lace.

Anecdote

The church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité, listed as a historic monument in 1969, has a 16th-century choir mixing Flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance, with hanging keystones.
